What are you currently listening to?

Postby YaYaMcG on Sat Nov 12, 2005 4:09 am

Hello folks,

I'm always interested in these kinds of threads because I'm a bit of a music geek. And I like hearing about what others are listening to. Because of that, I sometimes find a new favorite artist! :D Anyway ...

I'm listening to Spilt Milk from Jellyfish, right now. And "Joining A Fanclub" is currently owning my soul!

So, what are you listening to?

Currently listening to a Mike & the Mechanics album. The two songs seriously worth listening to are "Silent Running" and "The Living Years".

And yes, I do believe that most music produced in the last decade is shite. ;-p

You guys have good taste. Tag, Mike and the Mechanics? Rawk. Living Years is so damned sad, though. -sniff- Slash, Chili Peppers=awesome. YaYa, cool thread... good idea.

I'm listening to Peter Gabriel, Secret World Live. The two disks have become one. (MP3's are a gift from the gods.) I think this used to be disk 2.

Cued up next is some Dave Matthews, Live at Luther College. :D I would seriously listen to Dave read from the World Book Encyclopedia, volume S-T. Mmmmm.... Dave. Rawr.

YAY MUSIC...

I've been listening to Supersystem a lot. They've got an indie-electro sound. I also recommend Porcupine Tree. They're total prog goodness...12 minutes songs and all!

Other than that its been a mix of NIN, The Bravery, The Arcade Fire, and umm...Dizzee Rascal! >.<

Dire Straits are really cool but, after listening to Sultans of Swing quite a few times, I have come to the conclusion that it's a bit t0o long and they probably should have cut two of the verses...

However, after being reminded of how awesome they are, I just queued up the "Brothers in Arms" album :D

Sundays, for me, are such blah days. I usually listen to some sad bastard music on Sundays. But today I'm feeling pretty good so I've got on A Swingin' Affair! - Frank Sinatra with arrangements by Nelson Riddle.

Image

My God, this album makes me happy! I just have to hear the opening strings in "Stars Fell on Alabama" and that alone can make my day. So yeah, that's what is rattling around inside my head today. :)

I don't tend to listen to whole albums at the same - I just pick and choose songs, then a month later I find another track I'd forgotten about and obsess over that instead.

Triumphant, Röyskopp - Röyskopp have good songs, and they have really poor ones. This is one of their best, I feel. I like my music to have a lot happening at once, and this one really pulls it off. Reminds me of Clubbed to Death by Rob D (the Agent Training Program theme on the Matrix).

Country House, Blur - Picked up their Best Of album yesterday, and this song in particular is just so singable. I had a brief Parklife fixation a while back, too.

Autumn into Summer, Pelican - When I work to music, it basically needs to be instrumental, or else it gets in the way of my thinking. This album, and especially this song, are absolutely perfect for me. Again there's so many different things happening towards the end. 11 minutes of brilliance.

Capn, if you're into the whole electro-indie sound I wholeheartedly recommend the Cooper Temple Clause. Their first album is more spacy (and better) than their second. It's one of my all-time favourite albums with too many songs I love to list. Let's Kill Music is one of the best. It's full of energy, and one of those songs where you notice different parts of it the more you listen.

I saw one if their videos. The guy had a bitchin' double-necked guitar.

I've been listening to Hundred Reasons a lot these past few days. Falter and Silver are two of their best songs from the first album. I love the part about two minutes into Falter when everything comes together, and the synths towards the end of Silver.

At the risk of sounding conventional and therefore so much less cool than you guys...

I am a pretty huge fan of Muse anyway, and I recently discovered an mp3 I haven't listened to for years* on my hard drive: "Stockholm Syndrome". I can't think how to describe it, the closest adjective I can think of is "symphonic". Like "Butterflies and Hurricanes", but different.

Now you can all get back to your cool bands which no-one has heard of ;)

*This might be something to do with the fact that I have too much music on my hard drive...

I used to be pretty into Muse, until my bastard of a friend pointed something out that now really irritates me about them unless I manage to ignore it. It's probably best that I don't mention it.

When I'm in a Muse mood, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist is one of my favourites, alongside Butterflies and Hurricanes.

Didn't realise Hundred Reasons were that obscure. What about Feeder? First band I saw live, and their earlier albums especially were great.

I am a bit of a mixtape (Yeah, yeah ... I know they are CD's, but mixtape just sounds better!) weirdo. I make them all the time. I tend to do themes. From the usual "Love Songs" to the goofy "Songs about Animal Death."

I'm currently listening to my "Road Songs" CD. That has songs like "Utopia Parkway" from Fountains of Wayne to Nat King Cole's version of "Route 66."

Can you tell what kind of mood I'm in? Who is up for a road trip? :P

I like the Boy in the Bubble better. Love the lyrics. I need to conduct another raid on my dad's CD and LP collection.

Rush - Force Ten
Idlewild - Disconnected. There's something about Idlewild I can't quite put my finger on, but I really like it. The singer's got a kind of rich quality to his voice that makes me want to sing along.

And yes, that's exactly what I mean about Muse, and it's something I never used to pick up on until I was told about it. Seriously folks, don't read that spoiler.

Avril Lavigne came on the radio, and these lyrics always make me laugh:

If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I want to blow you.....................................away

Deliberate, or a dirty mind on my part? However, the next bit is almost certainly dirty-mindedness on my part. Still funny.

Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down..........................on one knee

However, the way she sings it sounds quite a lot like:

I want to see you go down...................on me

I leave you to go away and listen. It's "Things I'll Never Say".

Random is indeed fun. It was especially funny to have the Bohemian Rhapsody play, followed by that family guy song "You have AIDS."

Am I a horrible, horrible person or what?

Anyway, I'm still mostly listening to Coheed and Cambria.

Having the AIDS song follow "Bohemian Rhapsody" is fine. The thing that makes you a bad person is listening to Coheed and Cambria.

Oh wait, by saying that, does that make me a bad person?

Stupify - Rob Zombie? Also, I forget...
Tribute - Tenacious D
