I put on my wizard hat and robe...

Postby resiliang on Sat Jul 01, 2006 6:41 am

Yes! New July itemofthemonth.

What are your thoughts on it?

Is it a worthwhile buy both investment and usefulness-wise?

If not, is it e-peen or an absolutely useless item?

DISCUSS.

I personally don't like the Wizard Hat much and I don't bank on it being a very profitable item, from the investor's point of view, but I probably want to see its popularity and all before making my choice on how many to stock up on, for it might experience the "Hand Turkey" Syndrome again.

'WIZZARD' spelled out in sequins.
I love it.

It actually looks quite interesting. For a casual speed ascender (ie. one that can afford to pull it) the +5 turns to buffs cast looks useful - it could save you at least a third on buffing costs.

It looks to be a very effective softcore item and a massively useful items for any buffbots.

As an item to make a profit from it will be unlikely because it is not a consumable.

Fine, I'll comment! I don't like it resi. Kinda worthless in my mind. It seems like if you need something to have that many effects in order for it to be useful, other things must be better. And like slash said, it's non-consumable, so an investement is probably risky. Here's my thoughts...

[/spoiler]

+30 Maximum MP: eh, buffbots/mys classes might like it.
-1 MP to use Skills: ditto.
Regenerate MP Based on Level: my plexiglass hat does just fine.
+5 Duration to Buffs You Cast: somewhat useful, but not worth a mr. a just for that.
Allows casting of Magic Missile: 25 damage, max. I'll go with something else.

So there. I've bashed the hat. Wait... nope, one more thing. Cheesy name. July. jewel-eye. Eh, whatever.

From what you said mech, it seems like a fine item to have, specifically for buffbots.

+30 Maximum MP: Whats not to like?
-1 MP to use Skills: This is pretty helpful
Regenerate MP Based on Level: Will be quite useful after the high autosell nerf. Usefull for speedcore
+5 Duration to Buffs You Cast: I like this :) 1 mp for 20 turns of madrigal warms my cockles :) 14 mp for 15 turns of empathy, etc.
Allows casting of Magic Missile: Eh, could be better

I've been planning to try some 2 day runs without pulling any autosell items, and while this isn't uber powerful it'll be pretty damn sweet for non moxie runs and decent for moxie runs. I think it might go the way of the wax lips, people wont buy because it looks pretty weak under current game conditions but should be good to have after NS 13.

I love the MP regeneration ability. For those of us who don't have plexiglass pith helmets, it can be very useful to Lunging-Thrust Smack at the cost of no MP. Very useful.

I have been using it for a few ascensions now and it is a must for those who are not hardcore speed ascenders. If you do 3 dayers all the time in softcore then it is extremely useful. The pith helmet is ok but I wouldn't even be able to equip it in half my ascensions and by the time I can I probably don't need to use it that much.

Yes, that's another good point. The low power and therefore nonexistant stat requirments is quite useful early on in any softcore run, regardless of whether it be speed or at a leisurly pace.

I put an extra one in stash to assist in some of those runs, just make sure it makes it back.

Yeh I really enjoy my hat its a shame that ice went down or I would have sold my 5th one and gotten another one. Great use for slow ascenders saves me from going back to Galaktiks all the time or sleeping at my campsite.

Despite my initial thoughts of mediocrity regarding the hat, I have to admit it was a nice thing to pull early. I still think the magic missle is completely useless to anyone with TS and LST, but I'm sure I'll appreciate the hat more once I get some buff skills banked.

From what I see, it seems like a pretty popular item after all. Perhaps I should invest in a few...

Well, of course it won't be a "great" investment, as you put it, since it is not useable... but it's a helpful item that may have more demand when NS13 is released...

Yes, certainly Magic Missile is a pretty useless combat skill.

And, true, it won't be the best of investments, but having one or two, I think, is still going to be a good idea.

For personal use they are great and should be easy enough to resell as long as you don't expect a profit or can suffer a small loss.

I agree with Slash, I think too many people are already aware of their awesomness and are stockpiling, as such they'll will probably drop in price for a while after they leave the store.

Which is good reason to keep one for use and no more than that. Seeing as they're not going anywhere, you can sell it any time you like.

I don't really see them doing much above, possibly even at, the level of TPS's in the long run.
