I know I spelled it wrong, but that gave it a bit of a twist. Then as I realized that erroded was being used, I decided to keep it along the same lines and chose Errosion.

So, all in all, I've faded from the glory that I could have become...if that makes sense at all...

But, my real name is Ruth. That got shortened over time to just "Ru" by my friends, and my mom always called me "Ruta-toota". A friend once called me Rutabega.

I needed a new nick when I came to KoL, since I was getting tired of my old ones. It looked like a silly game, so I made a silly nick that corresponded with my name.

I love the book Ender's Game! We read it in my sci fi class. I had no idea the shower scene was so homoerotic. *runs and hides* Sorry, I had to... darn teachers overanalyzing everything!

Back in the early days of Everquest 1 I created my character then came to a road block on the name, finally said screw it and decided to just name him something stupid, Volkswagen. I like the car, own one, so I figured why not. Only problem was their nazi-like name restriction system. Rejected the name. So it then became my goal to figure how to get around that problem. Tried all spelling variations and failed. Finally figured I would just 2 part it since you get surnames at 20. Thus I became Volksen Wagenen. Since then I have just used the name for all games I play since Volksen fits almost any genre, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.

In the classic 60s TV show "The Avengers", Steed and Emma used to save the world from the machinations of diabolical masterminds. When she left the show her character warned him to "Always wear your bowler hat in times of stress and look out for diabolical masterminds." I liked the phrase and so I picked it when I created the char. The bowler hat is represented in my other me: Knightinshiningarmour always wears a bowler. Steed's was armour plated, btw, and he often knocked people out with it. Knight's name is another reference: Emma used to call Steed her knight in shining armour.

kinda strange story behind mine. i used to play Escape Velocity: Nova just as much if not more than KoL. the premise of the game is that you are a ship captain flying about the universe throug all these different storylines. my pilot went through several names per the story i was playing at the time. but when i went through the space pirate line, i chose "Cap'n Gnarly," as a pirate isn't a "Captain," but rather a "Cap'n." i joined a forum for that game (i did some bugwork for a couple plug-in/expansion packs made for it), which shortly after my joining created a thread about KoL.

as i had joined the forum using my pirate name Cap'n Gnarly, i kept it as i crossed over to KoL. there is still a rather nice clan from EV-Nova.net, though i'm not entirely sure how active they. just a "hey, i get 3 more adventures, a gym, and 500 meat a day" clan.

since then, the name Capn Gnarly has stuck with me everywhere. e-mail is capn.gnarly@gmail.com, as i received a gmail invite in-game. i work at a laser tag arena where each person uses a codename to play so we can keep score and let people know how they do at the end, and my membership name is CapnGnarly. the list goes on and on...

it's just become who i am.

My name is highly unoriginal - I loved the idea of a pastamancer and was really low on creativity (due to revising for exams last year), so the name should obviously be a type of pasta. Hence Tagliatelle.

After I realised that this game rocked (hard), I created two more multis, with much more original names. Practically everyone in the game has heard of sneaksie at this point, so I won't bother to keep that one secret. At some point I was a regular reader of the Thief forums and I saw the name of a regular poster "sneaksie thiefsie", liked it, and shortened it a bit. (Btw, the Thief games are probably the best first-person games on the market. I haven't played Thief III yet - not enough time for computer games atm - but I and II were pretty awesome.)

The other one, however, is definitely the best-named of all. Pity he's a secret.

My name is my real-life nickname. Some older kids started calling me it in high school, for reasons never explained. My guess is that it comes from the first day of school, when the teacher takes attendance by first initial + last name. "R. Mack" = Armak

Kisa (pronounced Key-sah) is purloined from a Manga. I'd like to tell you how I identified with the character, who is described as a timid tigress. The truth is I just liked the name. Kisa is a Russian nickname meaning "kitten" or "cat." Finally, it is the name of a town in Futami District, Hiroshima, Japan.

Mine isnt that special either.

I practice Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Of course Riddick (who doesn't take TKD) uses a pair of butterfly(ish) knives. I always like to toy with weapons like nunchakus, knifes, bokken and etc etc. My friends called me riddick for a short period of time, and during that time I always used the name Riddick.

The end.

Postby Lothor on Tue Jun 28, 2005 3:24 pm

I got my name in college, unfortunately nobody has ever been willing to divulge any information as to how. I started at my fraternity house, tequila is bad for you, and woke up in the middle of the lacrosse field at Johns Hopkins University with 'lothor' written in permanent marker on my left arm along with a number of other things written in other places which shall not be named. No recollection of how I got there and still don't know who wrote on me. Name stuck ever since.

My initials are JJ. My family has always called me JJ. My brother and I lived together in the frat house and he called me JJ. One of my frat brothers was a Spanish major. jota is Spanish for J. Hence jotajota. It just kinda stuck amoungst my frat brothers and friends. I speak very little Spanish, I could probably get a beer or find a bathroom, but that's about it. Don't you feel better now?

Matt the Fish really has no significance. I like fish and all, but I really don't identify with them or anything. Sometimes I like to think I put a stupid vacant expression on from time to time that'll remind people of a fish aimlessly staring out of a tank at the world around them, but really that isn't the reason.

I needed a name for registering on oekaki boards some time ago and I didn't want to use my whole real name for obvious reasons lest I come off as a real-life horrible pervert, so I went for Matt the ____ and the first thing I thought of was "Fish". It had a nice ring so I went for it.

My story of my name is so lame.

I wrote a three short stories years ago, and used the main character's name as my own. It started on the a MUD called Rites of Passage. It was one of the best modified MUDs I ever played. And that name stuck I have used it on every game, screen name and even my car lic plate. So there ya go.

Hekatchu is my alias in #Ircnet's chat and I've been using it alot in different games and boards.

Paradoxically it refers to both Greek mythology and uber-commercial stuff, because that is just who/what I am.

It comes from the names "Hekate" and "Pikatchu". Hekate is traditionally a witch, mistress of mysteries fighting against predestination and Zeus and the like, in the sense of knowing everything before it happens in this realm. So Hekate makes things interesting. She also likes to hang out with Gods like Persefone and Demeter according to some tales. She has also some aspects of Goddesses like Diana, Trivia, Artemis and such.

Well everyone knows what Pikatchu is, cute Pokemon, modern Disney, friend of Harry Potter. ;)

Nevil: Bastardized french, meaning "Of the new town"
Den: Elysian, meaning "Not blood, but of the house of"
Jacobi: Family/House Name.

Nevil Den Jacobi is something of an avatar of mine. It's a character from a piece of fiction that my brother and I have been writing off and on for years.
Nevil was my character, the one given exagerated versions of my own traits and ideals. I've been using the name fairly consistantly for about 6 or 7 years now.

Alhanna

Was an old D&D name of mine - an elven cleric
Is also apparently a slightly off version of a Dragon Lance elf - which probably tainted my initial creation of the name

But I have grown to love the name so I use it in everything - odds are fi you find an Alhanna out there its me.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr. wrote many books, including Cat's Cradle. The story itself is of a scientist who invents a substance for the military that causes any water it touches to turn solid, with a melting point of about 120 degree F. It also turns everything white with blue spots, if I remember correctly. This substance, due to the chemical structure, was called "Ice-Nine." After hearing about/reading the book, it became my moniker online for nearly everything I do.

Postby Bob the Tea on Sun Jan 22, 2006 5:57 am

Once, a long long time ago, I needed a name for a character for something or other. I looked around for a first name, found a buisness card with "Bob" on it. Then I needed a last name, and I saw a can of iced tea, so bobtea was spawned. For several years, I used varied forms of this. I needed an AIM SN when I first got AIM, so I chose "Bob Tea II". A year later I shortened it to bobtea2, and it has varied forms (bobbytea2, etc..) for different geocities accounts I've made. I think I'm at bobtea4.. anyway, for KoL I saw it was a somewhat funny looking game, and I decided to make it a bit stranger.

At that stage in my life, my grammar had become distorted somewhat as a form of amusement. Adding articles between every word was a fun recurring joke between a few friends of mine. So I did it. Hence, Bob the Tea.

Now people assume two things. They assume my name is Bob and they assume I like tea (and subsequently, I've been assumed British by some people.. O_o)

Neither is true. I'm Mike and like coffee...

"Tibbiara" is a high-fantasy'd up derivative of "Tibby," a turtle to which Tom Servo sang a love song on one of the early episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000. (That's Tibby in my avatar.) I thought it'd be an appropriate name for a Turtle Tamer...

I'm Mary. OF DOOM! I also used to play Magic, and I still have a bad habit of overusing certain phrases. When I played Magic, I would tack the phrase, "...of DOOM!" on the end of my actions. "I attack you with my creature...of DOOM!" "I cast my Lightning Bolt...of DOOM!"

So I'm also on a mailing list for Magic in the Denver area, and one of the guys posted a message talking about the creator of Schoolhouse Rock, who had recently died. He was talking about how "all the young kids on the list, like Mitchell, Chumley, and Mary of DOOM! won't remember the show..." etc etc.

And then I started using it as my default screen name. It's snappy and contains my real name in it, so there's very little confusion when making the transition to real life.
Mary (of Doom!)
